fic recs?

So next week is my spring break, and this weekend my mom and I are driving down to Florida to visit my grandpa. I usually have very little internet access down there, and obviously none on the drive, so I usually save some fic onto my harddrive for me to read. As I've said before, I have a ton of fic under 'to read' on pinboard, but none of them are looking particularly thrilling right now for whatever reason, haha.

I was wondering if anyone had any fic recs of over 10K wordcount? The longer the better! 10K takes me at most, like, 15-20 minutes to read. It's very sad. XD You can see my fandoms here, and what fics I've already read. But I read fic for all fandoms, whether I've read/seen them or not. A lot of times after reading the fic I'll then look into the source material! Or discover through the fics and writer's comments that I probably wouldn't enjoy the source material, haha. Anyway, yes, any fic recs? (Recs of fic from an anime/manga fandom would be a bonus, I have a hard time finding longfic in anime fandoms.)

Awesome Fic

You know when you read a long, engrossing fic or book that's well written and just hits all of your buttons and when you've finished you feel kind of numb and like anything else you read right then just isn't going to compare?

That's happened to me twice in the last two days.

Which, yay for really awesome fic, but I still want to read something and so now I'm staring broodingly at my to read fics on pinboard and going "nothing looks appealing!". Which is quite a feat, since I have over 1300 to read fic links on pinboard... I have a problem.

On the other hand, most of these are probably better than working on the essay I should be working on, hah. Oops.

(If anyone's curious, the one from yesterday was desynchronization (Hikaru no Go, Ogata/Sai, scroll down the masterlist to find it) and the one I read today was Family Ties (Loki gen))

Both this week’s chapter and last week’s chapter sent me into visible flailing and incoherence. I am so freaking intrigued by this arc. All you people on my flist that gave up on Bleach, I’d definitely recommend popping in now or in the future (when we actually know more of what’s going on, haha).

So now I'm going to pimp some stuff going on.

bleachbigbang is holding a mini-bang currently. I plan on signing up and seeing if my muses will cooperate enough in order to finish something. Unfortunately all three of the things I've been working on recently have either already passed 10K or will definitely do so in the future. Oh muses.

fandom_helps is also happening. I signed up for casestory as it fits one of the aforementioned things that are already over 10K, we'll see if I can actually manage to complete it. I'm also pondering scifibigbang .

I’ve been meaning to start posting again for a while, but it looks like Bleach is about to start getting really interesting for me soon, so I decided that I should come back if only so I can spam you all with my theories and musing instead of just harassing nerdowl and spikykun! :D

I know I attempted to delurk the beginning of last semester and that lasted, like, two days, but to give myself some credit, last semester ended up being a hellish semester. This semester will not be. However, I don’t guarantee I won’t be sporadic with my posting. I’m planning on updating pretty frequently; we’ll see how that goes.

Now for Bleach talk! The plan was to type up all of my thoughts about all the information we learned from Kubo during the hiatus, but then I realized that it was incredibly hard to get all of my thoughts together, my brain is teeming with ideas, and that no one would read it because it'd be ten pages long. So I'll probably be posting chunks of rambling theories and speculation over the next couple days.

If you haven't seen the new information, you can find most of it on the first page of this thread. This page isn't up on the first page yet, and we're waiting for the "official" translation of one more page.

I'm alive, I swear! I'll eventually stop lurking and get back to you all on how college is going. But right now I'm working on an evil essay. This post accomplishes two things. First, testing crossposting from dreamwidth. No, I'm not moving to DW, I've just backed everything up. I may or may not be crossposting from DW mostly from now on, but comments on lj won't be disabled. I don't have a privacy issue with FB- I'm only friends with one fandom person over there. LJ and its policies are just ticking me off. I just like DW better? Lol.

ANYWAY. THE OTHER POINT is to share something with you that completely made my day. So I was procrastinating on that aformentioned evil essay and looking up some anime that had been recced to me. I got to Peacemaker Kurogane and was going "hmm, yeah, I think I might try it, maybe..." It seems to be a shounen series with samurais and swords type of thing.

And then.

I got.

To the character descriptions.

The third character listed was "Okita Souji".

Description:

"The first unit captain of the Shinsengumi. He is deceptively delicate-looking and has an overall sunny disposition that occasionally borders on childishness, but displays frighteningly deadly skill in combat situations. He shares a strong bond with Hijikata and is also one of the only people who has a deep understanding of Tetsu. He takes Tetsu seriously and often practices with him. In addition, Souji loves children and is rarely seen without his piglet Saizo when he is off-duty. Souji is later diagnosed with tuberculosis."
