Title: Happiness
Rating: PG
Word Count: 409
Characters/Pairings: Ukitake/Shunsui, implied Byakuya/Rukia
A/N: I wrote this a while ago (read: a couple months) but I never got around to posting it. XD I just wanted to post it to prove that I am capable of writing something happy! *laughs*
Ukitake Jyuushirou knew Byakuya Kuchiki better than almost anyone else. Jyuushirou could not father children himself, but as a result of his kind nature he had managed to acquire a family not tied to him by blood. Byakuya was like a son to him. His heart ached when he thought of Hisana-chan’s death, and the young Kuchiki’s subsequent withdrawal from life.
He had hoped that Rukia, bright Rukia, would be able to bring Byakuya out of his shell, but for a long time it had seemed to be a futile hope, especially with Byakuya’s attitude toward her execution. However, he had been watching the two of them closely, and recently he had come to a startling conclusion… startling, but welcome.
"Shunsui?"
"Mmm?" His lover responded lazily, carding a hand through Jyuushirou’s white hair. Jyuushirou made a contented noise, and shifted his head to give him better access.
"I do not believe that Bya-kun cares for Rukia as his sister." He murmured.
"I thought you’d be more disappointed." There was a note of surprise in his voice, and Jyuushirou smiled against his lover’s chest.
"All I ever wanted was someone for him to care for. I never said he did not care for her… just that he did not care for her in a brotherly fashion."
The hand in his hair stilled. After a slight pause there came, "Jyuu-kun, are you implying what I think you’re implying?" Jyuushirou had known the other man for too long; there was no need for him to see Shunsui’s face to be able to picture perfectly the expression spreading across it- the maniacal grin, and the mischievous glint in his suddenly bright eyes.
Jyuushirou shifted and slowly rolled over, reluctantly disentangling Shunsui’s hand from his hair. Yes, there was that all too familiar expression. Indeed, he had definitely made the right choice in mentioning this to his matchmaking friend. "I don’t know, what do you think I’m implying?" He teased, though they both knew full well the answer. Shunsui laughed delightedly and wrapped the abandoned arm around Jyuushirou’s back, pulling him in for a kiss.
Yes, the past had shown this was the right course of action. Jyuushirou had seen the longing glances between the two, and Shunsui’s matchmaking skills were unparalleled in all of Seireitei. Byakuya and Rukia were like children to him, and all he had ever desired for the two of them was happiness.
After everything, they both deserved it.

on 2009-11-30 01:05 pm (UTC)Side note: This is something I've wondered for a while... it doesn't matter in the slightest but why do an awful lot of your entries not actually have a title? (It's very disconcerting going through the 'view subjects' page on the calendar and seeing 10 or so '(no subject)' 's in a row xD;; )
