Title: Midst of War

Pairing: Renji/Ichigo
Notes: This was written at like 11:30 last night while I was falling asleep in bed. At least some of my muse has come back? *pokes springkink prompts*
Dedication: This little drabble is for my two most favorite people in all the world, cmc42and spikykun. ILU my silly RenIchi fans. <3

“Kuro…” Ukitake’s voice cut off as his eyes took in the scene before him.

Kurosaki Ichigo and Abarai Renji lay tangled together on the bed, both fast asleep. Abarai’s arm was slung across Kurosaki’s shoulders, and his red hair, for once released from its bindings, splayed in brilliant contrast across the white pillow. Kurosaki’s face was nestled against the other man’s bare chest, his messy hair just tickling Abarai’s chin.

There was no tension in either of their forms, just a sated, peaceful relaxation.

“Ukitake-tai…”

“Shhh.” Ukitake turned away from the open window and quickly hushed his approaching third seat. “I’m going to take his watch too.”

Dismay and concern flashed across her face; she was no doubt worried about his health. Ukitake brushed her off. “Don’t worry, I’m feeling fine. Kurosaki-kun needs his rest.”

Kiyone reluctantly followed behind her taichou as they went back to patrol, her eyes on his back, unable to see the fond, wistful smile that now touched his lips. That is good to see. I’ve seen it before, but it never fails to give me hope. Even in the midst of war, we can find happiness.

The funny thing is, Byakuya isn't even my favorite character on the show, and yet all three of the Bleach fics I;ve written center around him! LOL
